Aaron Rodgers provides  injury update and clarifies his stance on the Jets’ future

The New York Jets quarterback provided an update on his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury that is expected to sideline his four-time NFL MVP award for the remainder of his career of the season.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is refusing to put a timetable on any potential return from an Achilles injury that dashed his hopes of a memorable first season with the franchise commercial.

Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in his NFL debut for the Jets against the Buffalo Bills on September 11. The veteran quarterback was only on the field for  four games before being forced to leave the game and sent for a medical evaluation.

Following an MRI, it was later announced that Rodgers would be sidelined for the remainder of the season. That leaves former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson to step in and become the Jets’ starting quarterback.

Rodgers admitted immediately after his injury that he had a surprising goal: to potentially return to the field for the playoffs. The Jets’ Week 17 game against the New England Patriots on January 7 will then make the playoffs if the team has a good enough season.

During his latest appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday, Rodgers spoke honestly about his current injury recovery status. Rodgers underwent surgery in his native California on September 13, just two days after his injury, and  is continuing his recovery on the West Coast. When asked about a potential return to the field, Rodgers did not offer a specific timetable as he referred to the “shadow retirement” he took when deciding his future with Green’s Packers Fly in February.

“It’s like a retreat into darkness in reverse,” Rodgers joked to McAfee. “Nothing but constant light.”

Rodgers added: “I don’t want to get caught up in time. “I just want to be healthy, honestly – mentally and physically, honestly.

“But I will do everything I can  in terms of rehabilitation to be ready to play  again at some point. That’s the point.

“I mean, obviously when this happened, there was a lot of thinking about: Is this it? Deposited money, done?

“I just don’t feel it. So I’m going to put myself in a position to be able to play again and then see when that’s the case.”

Rodgers also admitted that defending the Jets hasn’t been easy  since his injury. With Wilson at quarterback, the Jets  beat the Bills in the same game in which Rodgers was injured, but lost 30-10 in Week 2 to the Dallas Cowboys.

“It was tough,” Rodgers said. “It’s hard not to be around the guys every day, even when they’re testing or I’m listening to the coaches or whatever.

“It was wonderful but  also disappointing not to be  there. I’m working hard on my rehab and I’m just looking forward to returning to Jersey at some point.
