DONALD ON RORY MCILROY’S FURIOUS (!) RYDER CUP ROW: “HE FELT A LINE WAS CROSSED”
European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald claimed Tiger Woods’ caddie ‘didn’t move’ when asked as Rory McIlroy lined up a crucial putt in Italy.
ROME – European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald said Tiger Woods’ caddy Joe LaCava “didn’t move for a while” when Rory McIlroy holed his putt on the 18th green at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club .
McIlroy plays the final match of the afternoon with Matthew Fitzpatrick against Wyndham Clark and Patrick Cantlay.
Cantlay shook hands and made a huge birdie putt. Team USA players immediately taunted the European crowd, taking off their hats and waving their arms.
Rory McIlroy WONDERED with his caddy in the car park after the Ryder Cup row
The American golfer apparently did not wear a baseball cap to protest the failure of Ryder Cup players to pay. For his part, Cantlay said nothing could be further from the truth. The hat didn’t fit him and he planned not to wear it all week.
But Cantlay declined to answer the question of whether competitors in the biennial showdown should do so.
Cantlay’s caddy, LaCava, is currently on loan from Woods while the 15-time major champion recovers from his latest surgery.
According to captain Donald, LaCava had “not moved for a while”, as the Ulsterman lined up his putt on the 18th green, needing either himself or Fitzpatrick to make the birdie putt to tie the match.
McIlroy and the Englishman both missed and led the Americans by five points in Sunday’s singles match.
Donald said::
“Yeah, obviously I was there on 18. I saw it happen when Patrick made that shot, Joe was waving his hat. Obviously the crowd was waving their hats all day for the players of we.”
“[I] talked to Rory. He politely asked Joe to step aside. He was in her sight. He stood there for a while without moving and kept waving his hat so I think Rory was very upset about that.”

Video taken from the parking lot next to the field shows McIlroy extremely angry.
It is said McIlroy was saying: “This can’t happen! This can’t happen! It’s a f—ing disgrace.”
:Donald continued
“Listen, I’ll talk with Rory when I get back. I didn’t see the [car park] incident personally. I saw the one on 18. Yeah, I think we always — as I said in my speech, we always try and play with passion, play with energy, but play with respect. That will certainly be my message to the players.
Look, wee love this event because of the passion, but we want to do it the right way. Obviously Rory felt like the line was crossed on the 18th green. Again, I will address it with him when I see him. I wasn’t there personally in the car park, but when I get back I will talk with him.”
