Jets DE Jermaine Johnson’s revealing comments will get Patrick Mahomes’ attention
Jets defensive back Jermaine Johnson made some interesting comments that are sure to get the attention of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The New York Jets have one sack and have been split by quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Mac Jones in the last two games. This week they face the Kansas City Chiefs and their elite QB, Patrick Mahomes. But that doesn’t diminish the arrogance of Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson.
When asked if he would face Mahomes, the two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback, Johnson had a confident answer. Via Paul Andrew Esden Jr:
âWe have something for him. We have something for him,â Johnson said.
Johnson better hope defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has an incredible game plan to contain Mahomes, otherwise it could be a long Sunday night for the Jets. Mahomes has thrown seven touchdowns and has a 99.5 passer rating in three games. He threw for more than 5,000 yards last season and is just shy of 200 touchdowns in his NFL career. Oh, and the elusive Mahomes has totaled 103 yards on 16 carries this season (6.4 yards per carry).
“Jermaine Johnson says there are no excuses for the Jets, ‘make plays.’
If you think Prescott and Jones clear the ball quickly, wait until you see Mahomes, who processes things so quickly that it allows him to get the ball out of his hands in an instant, frustrating defenders along the way. Go. And the Jets defense certainly failed Prescott and Jones in consecutive losses over the past two weeks.
âYeah, they got rid of it quickly, but as we like to say in our room, the players were going to play big no matter what,â Johnson said. âYeah, they’re going to get the ball quick, they’re going to get (maximum protection) … at the end of the day, you’re either going to get a sack or you’re not going to get a sack.
“Doesn’t matter. Play the game.
The 2022 first-round pick started against veteran Carl Lawson and had one sack, five QB pressures and 10 tackles in the first three games.
Make no mistake, Johnson and the Jets (1-2) need to make a lot of big plays against the Chiefs (2-1) this week.
