Helmut Marko Doesn’t Get Intimidated by Max Verstappen’s $55,000,000 Salary as Red Bull Star Reveals his Boss’ Habit of Going ‘Too Far’
Newly crowned three-time F1 champion Max Verstappen is the highest paid driver in F1 as he earns a whopping $55,000,000 from Red Bull every season. Even though the Dutchman received such a high amount of money from Milton Keynes, that did not stop Helmut Marko from going “too far” when betting with him.
The 26-year-old shed light on the Austrian’s betting habits during a press conference at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this year. The Red Bull racer revealed that the 80-year-old man “loves betting” and often invests a lot of money.
Verstappen revealed that Marko is not afraid to bet big. Max Verstappen gave insight into Helmut Marko’s gambling habits during the weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, a race in which his former Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo returned to the grid. The Australian, who replaced the sacked Nyck de Vries, asked the Dutchman for details on how Marko likes to bet.
In response, Verstappen said (as quoted by Mirror.co.uk): “He liked his bet, but he really went quite far, Helmut. There’s still a lot of money at stake! However, shortly after the 26-year-old won his third world title, Marko has now stopped betting against him.
Red Bull’s advisor explained similarly, telling telegraaf.nl: “If he says he wants or can do something, he will do it. He doesn’t seem to know boundaries. If the 80-year-old no longer bets with Verstappen, he can do so with Ricciardo. In the same press conference as Verstappen, the Australian also expressed interest in the same thing.
Daniel Ricciardo wants to bet with Helmut Marko.
After Max Verstappen explained how much Helmut Marko likes to bet, Daniel Ricciardo said he might consider betting with the Austrian himself. As quoted by Mirror.co.uk, the Australian said: “Very good. Let’s see how the first few races go and then I can start placing bets.”
Ricciardo seems to enjoy gambling, as he also bet during his time with McLaren. This 34-year-old man was once famous for his bet with McLaren CEO Zak Brown, which caused the American businessman to get a tattoo.
Ricciardo bet Brown that if he wins a race in the 2021 season, the 51-year-old will get a tattoo of the circuit where he scored the win. So, ever since Ricciardo won that season’s Italian Grand Prix, Brown got a tattoo of the Monza racetrack.
