Bruno clause?
Bruno Guimaraes has become one of a raft of first-team stars to agree new contracts at St James’ Park in recent weeks. The Brazil international put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, having established himself as a key player under Eddie Howe since his arrival in January 2022.
Guimaraes has made no secret of his love for Newcastle and his gratitude for the support of the Toon Army. However, the new contract is said to contain a ‘secret’ clause which could see the midfielder leave for a lower fee to Barcelona, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
The La Liga champions are facing financial difficulties, meaning an imminent transfer of Guimaraes is unlikely. However, reports suggest that the Catalan giants could complete the deal with an offer worth around £60 million.
Kalvin Phillips continues to be linked with a move away from Manchester City as the former Leeds United player struggles to make an impact with Pep Guardiola’s side. The Magpies are one of the clubs said to be interested and journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the midfielder’s thinking ahead of a potential mid-season transfer.
Jacobs told GiveMeSport:
“Newcastle, maybe West Ham and maybe Villa, they all have one thing in common, which is that they are teams in the top half of the Premier League and have the potential to go to Europe. And I think that’s the kind of club, a Premier League stable club in Europe., or has a very good chance of going to Europe, which I understand, either way, Phillips is looking at whether to leave Manchester City or not, and this is not the case yet.
“I think if the right offer comes to Man City, like Manchester United and Harry Maguire, they will say thank you very much, but it also depends on the player. And in the same way Maguire never accepted. West Ham, Phillips has always refused any form of hasty exit from Manchester City, because he still believes that at some point his time and minutes will come.
