FIA president confirms key detail for Andretti F1 entry.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has announced that Andretti will be guaranteed “one of two engines” from an F1 power unit supplier if the American team enters the sport in 2025 or 2026.

Following the FIA’s approval of Andretti’s bid at the beginning of October, their Formula 1 entry is at a critical juncture. Choosing an engine supplier for their launch is a crucial step that will follow.

General Motors, which Andretti had initially intended to enter with assistance from, won’t be prepared for several years.

There was therefore concern that Andretti’s entry would be hindered by an engine shortage. However, according to the current rules, “At the beginning, Andretti will have to agree on one of two engines,” according to the FIA President.

It is accepted that Honda and Renault are these two options. The interim manager of Alpine has expressed some uncertainty.

“Nobody can reject them because of the rules, he claimed. The FIA has the authority to continue and say, “The least two [engine manufacturers] being used, then we put them in a draw, and we take one,” if all the teams object.

Ben Sulayem has backed Andretti’s bid to enter F1 and wants to see “more teams”

“I’m sure it’s either Alpine or Honda, and one of them would win because that’s how the rules work,” said the speaker.

General Motors, once the biggest automaker in the world, is still a huge player in the industry and would significantly boost F1’s stock. Andretti anticipates having an all-American supply for their power units in the future thanks to Cadillac (owned by GM). with the planning stage of this objective
