Rory McIlroy aims for a historic fourth win at the 2024 Dubai Desert Classic
Rory McIlroy returns to defend his Dubai Desert Classic Hero crown next year as he targets a historic fourth title.
Ryder Cup hero Mcllroy will lead a world-class field in the first Rolex Series event of the 2024 Race to Dubai at Emirates Golf Club from January 18 to 24.
Dubai is Happy hunting ground for the 34-year-old Northern Irishman, who won his first European Tour title at this event in 2009, before claiming his second and third Desert Classic titles in 2015 and 2023 – equaling Ernie’s record. Els as he overcame American Patrick Reed on a dramatic final day at the Majlis in January.
The four-time Major winner then added a second Rolex Series title at the Scottish Open in July and once again leads the Race to Dubai as he aims to top the season standings The fifth time.
“Winning the Dallah Trophy for a third time means a lot,” McIlroy said. “I have had a lot of success at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic over the years, so winning another title is the perfect way to start the new year.
“I love coming to Dubai and the support we get from the fans is always special. I look forward to returning to Emirates Golf Club in January and hopefully creating history.
McIlroy recently played a key role in Europe in reclaiming the Ryder Cup against the United States as Luke Donald’s side claimed a 16½-11½ victory at Marco Simone Golf Club near Rome earlier this month.
The Northern Irishman completed his best Ryder Cup return with four points, two years after bursting into tears as Europe were humiliated 19-9 by the Americans at Whistling Straits.
