Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are in charge of the new innovative golf league ‘TGL’, and the PGA Tour pairing have completed their roster by adding for more players
The innovative golf league “TGL,” founded by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, has finished building its playing roster by adding five more A-list athletes ahead of its January debut.
TGL was created by McIlroy and Woods in response to LIV Golf’s threat to the PGA Tour. The league, which will have a 15-week season, will be held in a stadium facility that was specially built. Players will compete on a virtual golf course that has an on-site short game green.
The ground-breaking series will begin in the new year, and in advance of the event a slew of PGA Tour stars have committed to taking part in competition across six teams.
Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover, Kevin Kisner, and Min Woo Lee were all included in TGL’s announcement on Tuesday that they had completed their committed roster for the team’s inaugural season. Just a few weeks ago, American golfing superstar Cantlay found himself at the center of controversy at the Ryder Cup.
The fact that Team USA players weren’t paid prior to their defeat by the Europeans, according to Sky Sports, caused a rift in the team’s locker room, which Cantlay is allegedly to blame for. Now that the drama is behind him, the former FedEx Cup champion has his sights set on a new team event in TGL.
“I became more eager to participate in the competition as I spoke with the other TGL players, said Cantlay. “This is a fantastic chance to present golf in a cutting-edge format during primetime. TGL will give us the chance to show off not only our playing prowess but also a different side of ourselves than what the public typically sees of us on the course.
Clark, a member of his Ryder Cup team, will join the 31-year-old. With his victory at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club in the summer, the American has had a breakthrough season on the PGA Tour. His impressive campaign earned him a spot on Zach Johnson’s American team, and he is now
Ahead of his next step, the U.S. Open champion said: “This year has been a bit of a dream for me to have my first PGA Tour win, my first major championship victory and to represent the U.S. in the Ryder Cup. Golf is a humbling game, so it was extremely rewarding to see my hard work translate to success on the course this year. Iโm beyond excited to continue the dream by committing and joining this exceptional group of players on TGL.”
Cantlay, Clark, Glover, Lee and Kisner will team up with the 19 players already confirmed. A well as Woods and McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Cam Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Billy Horschel will all compete in the stadium-based league.
