Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has spoken about the possibility of entering the boxing ring for a fight with his LIV Golf opponent, Bryson DeChambeau.
Brooks Koepka announced his desire to step into the boxing ring and fight golf rival Bryson DeChambeau. Koepka is one of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars to leave and sign up for Saudi Arabia-sponsored LIV Golf in 2022.
The five-time major champion is joined by DeChambeau, both of whom are currently played for LIV Golf in the past two seasons. Keopka finished the 2023 season in third place behind Talor Gooch and Cameron Smith, while DeChambeau finished fourth.
Koepka and DeChambeau each finished the season with two LIV wins. Koepka also won his fifth career major title at the PGA Championship in May.
Due to participation in LIV Golf, neither player can automatically qualify for Team USA for the Ryder Cup. However, Koepka was selected by Zach Johnson as one of six captains for the tournament in Italy.
Koepka appeared on the ‘BS w/Jake Paul’ podcast on Thursday, where he was asked if there were any opponents he had trouble with. Koepka nominated DeChambeau, given tensions between the two in recent years.
“I have a big problem with Bryson [DeChambeau],” Koepka said. Paul then responded by saying: “Would you like to fight him like a boxing match?” Koepka replied: “Yeah, are you going to advertise it?”
Paul then offers to help set up a fight between Koepka and DeChambeau:
“I’m disappointed. I’ll spend a million dollars (£820,000) on each fighter, plus pay-per-view.
A podcast co-host then said: “Bryson is ruined, am I right, after this fight? ” Koepka responded by saying:
“Oh, he will be, don’t worry. I think we can improve things.”
Koepka and DeChambeau have had a number of feuds in recent years, starting in 2019. Keopka complained about DeChambeau’s slow play during the Dubai Desert Classic, leading the two men to make comments about each other through 2020.
In February of this year, Koepka confirmed that he and DeChambeau ended their supposed feud. During a Q&A session on Instagram on February 25, Koepka said he and his compatriot had resolved things amicably.
“Believe it or not, we crushed it,” Koepka said in February. “Too good. I actually talk to him quite often because of what’s going on at LIV.
“Almost every other day. We have a good open line of communication, we have everything figured out and everything is fine.”
