Anthony Joshua returns to the Formula 1 paddock, this time as an investor in the team.
The former heavyweight world champion was seen spending time with Max Verstappen during his Grand Prix at Zandvoort in August, but has now swapped his Red Bull camper van for one from Alpine.
Joshua was announced as an investor in Otro Capital ahead of the United States Grand Prix, which is part of a consortium that bought a 24% stake in French F1 team Alpine.
Joining the list of high-profile investors, Joshua has signed up the Liverpool and Kansas City Chiefs duo of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy was also in Austin for the weekend’s racing.
He will certainly spend time with fellow investor Joshua, while Alpine lines up seventh with Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon eighth for Sunday’s main race.
McIlroy previously spent time at Circuit of the Americas discussing his investment in Alpine, but suggested it might not stop there.
The Northern Irishman is a fan of Manchester United and said he is definitely interested in the club’s current ownership saga.
“I would love to be able to own a small percentage of the club I grew up supporting as a child,” the Ryder Cup winner told Sky.
“I’d love to own 0.00001% of Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe holds 25%.” And if another opportunity comes my way, I will consider it. But this is not yet something that has been discussed at our table.
“There’s Tom Brady in Birmingham and there’s a couple of golfers – Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas – who have invested in the 49ers and they own a little bit of Leeds.
They asked me if I wanted to get on the plane, and I said as a Man United fan I couldn’t go near it!
“Sir Jim has an excellent record and all United supporters will be excited about the possibilities if they give him full sporting and decision-making authority for the club. As a fan, I’m very excited.”
