Horner explains post-race message to Verstappen from Lambiase: ‘Marital bliss’
Verstappen and Lambiase were involved in numerous heated exchanges during the United States Grand Prix.
After more heated radio exchanges at the US Grand Prix, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner joked that Max Verstappen and Race Engineer Gianpiero Lambiase’s “marital bliss” was still going strong.
After starting from sixth on the grid, the three-time World Champion narrowly held off Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in the final lap to secure his 50th F1 victory.
Verstappen expressed his concerns over the team radio, saying, “Mate, these brakes are so s**t compared to yesterday, what a piece of s**t,” as he dealt with brake problems from the start.
Later in the race, when given information about gaps to competitors, Verstappen responded, “Stop talking in the braking man, f**k.”
Lambiase said following the competition: “Well
Explaining the message from Lambiase, given the various exchanges between the two across the season, Horner told Sky Sports F1: “It was not a code or anything like that – the marital bliss between the two of them just rolls on.
“He [Lambiase] has had to rush back to the UK, so he was rushing to catch a flight.
“It used to be Helmut early but now it is the race engineer that is straight out after the race.”
Mateschitz tribute
Verstappen’s triumph came exactly one year after Dietrich Mateschitz, a co-founder of Red Bull, passed away.
Horner paid homage to the Austrian and said, “I hope he would have liked that looking down.
“He only ever wore a pair of jeans, so that’s why the entire team is wearing jeans today to pay tribute to him and because the past year has been incredible for the group as a whole.
Without him, we simply wouldn’t be where we are today. Hopefully, he is looking down and enjoyed hearing the Rolling Stones perform after the race as we remember him here.
