Rory McIlroy says he has reconciled with caddy Joe LaCava behind Ryder Cup row

Rory McIlroy reveals at the Formula One United States Grand Prix that he has reconciled with caddy Joe LaCava Patrick Cantlay, Joe LaCava, behind Ryder row Their Cup  in Rome.

LaCava gave McIlroy more fire in Sunday’s singles match when he refused to step aside while trying to make a putt during the break in  Saturday afternoon’s four-ball loss to Matt Fitzpatrick ahead of Cantlay and Wyndham Clark.  McIlroy told BBC Sport: “Everything happened at a hot time, tensions were high. “Joe LaCava came to the European team room on  Sunday night, had a drink and chatted.”

McIlroy then beat Sam Burns 3&1 as Europe reclaimed the cup and revealed that he had deliberately avoided meeting  LaCava before the singles match. he could use  Saturday night’s meltdown, which ended with him being held up in the car park by Shane Lowry, as motivation.

“I had a great relationship with Joe during his years as Tiger’s caddy and that won’t change,” McIlroy said. “For me, the incident happened, I purposely didn’t want to see anyone on  Sunday morning because I wanted what  happened to motivate me for that day.

“My main goal is to get Europe to win the Ryder Cup, then we’ll deal with everything else. And all is well. We’re all friends now.”

McIlroy was speaking as LIV Golf played the final of the Miami Team Championship at Trump National Doral, where Crushers GC won the $14 million team prize dollars ($13.14 million). ‘euro) with 40 cents ($1.4 million/€1.3 million each) going to team members Bryson DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, Paul Casey and Anirban Lahiri.
