LIV Golf rebel moves closer to shock return to PGA Tour after being dumped by rival tournament
Turk Pettit played in all eight LIV Golf events in his inaugural 2022 campaign, but a year later The American tennis player aims to return to the PGA Tour through Q-School.
Former LIV Golf star Turk Pettit has begun his journey back to the PGA Tour through qualifying school, a year after being dropped from the breakaway tour.
Pettit competed in all eight LIV events in their first campaign of 2022 and won £858,000 for Niblicks GC.
The team led by captain Bubba Watson was renamed the RangeGoats in 2023 and Pettit was replaced by Harold Varner III, Thomas Pieters and Talor Gooch.
To compete in the breakaway circuit, the American player was forced to withdraw from the PGA Tour after a long dispute between two rival circuits.
Having lost his spot on the LIV setup this year, Pettit has played his golf on the Asian Tour – with his best performance coming at the St Andrews Bay Championship where he finished in a tie for eighth in Scotland.
Ahead of 2024, the 24-year-old is hoping to play PGA Tour golf once more.
The American entered into one of 10 PGA Tour Q-School events taking place across the United States, and enjoyed plenty of success after finishing at 10-under-par in Texas to book a place in the next stage.
If Pettit is successful in regaining his card he could well be followed by a number of his fellow LIV stars.
In June the PGA Tour announced they had reached a framework agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), that would see them work in unison with their LIV rivals.
Part of the deal is that previously banned players can reapply for a PGA Tour membership.
Currently, the agreement between the two sides has not yet been completed, the deadline is set for December 31 to sign the agreement.
In recent weeks, doubts about completing the deal have emerged, as the Tour also considers investments from elsewhere, from the PIF.
In a leaked note to players, the Tour said: “We remain focused on reaching a final agreement with the PIF and DP World Tour, but unsurprisingly, negotiations This ruling has resulted in increased awareness and unsolicited proposals from a number of other organizations.
” All this activity strengthens the Tour’s strong position and our growth potential.
