“Rory McIlroy revealed that he reached out to Jon Rahm and told him there was no chance the Spanish golfer, a super golfer, would move from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.
Speculation ran rampant when it was noticed that Rahm’s name had disappeared from the list of 24 players listed on the TGL website who will compete in the early January PGA Tour-backed TGL Series in Florida.
Rahm’s absence from the roster quickly sparked suggestions that the reigning Masters champion was signing with LIV.
However, Rahm went public in a short 49-word statement to shed more light on the controversy by saying the “time was not right” for him to add more golf on his schedule.
McIlroy was asked what he thought of Rahm’s decision during Monday’s press conference in Boston to officially bring his own Boston team to the TGL Series.
โI talked to Jon a few days ago and I would be very, very surprised if this happened,โ McIlroy said.
“I’m pretty confident that Jon is a PGA Tour player.
” TGL also released a separate statement confirming that Rahm will not participate in the season opener. He said that they “understand that players must balance many different aspects of their professional and personal lives, respect Jon’s choices, and wish him well.”
