Arguably LIV Golf’s most successful event of its first season in 2023 was its first outing to Australia in Adelaide and Australian resident Greg Norman has announced that the tournament will return in 2024.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinautkas calls LIV Golf’s event in Adelaide “the best event in the world” world”, after Greg Norman announced the Saudi-backed tournament would return in 2024.
LIV’s first Biggest tournament ever in Norman’s hometown takes place at The Grange in Adelaide in April, and it proved to be one of the Separatists’ most successful weeks to date. Building on this success, LIV’s CEO confirmed the tournament’s return to South Australia in an optimistic statement on Friday.
“The inaugural LIV Golf Adelaide showed the world how a global audience is embracing LIV Golf, which is breathing new life into the sport,” Norman said.
“This is the premier tournament in our tour’s first regular season and is a historic display of competition, entertainment and fanfare that golf fans deserve. South Australia knows how to put on a show and we look forward to seeing Grange Golf Club set a new high standard for the tournament as we raise the bar even higher in 2024.
” The event will take place on 26th, 27th and 28th of April in 2024, and the return of the tournament has been welcomed with open arms by Premier, Malinauskas. The South Australia leader hailed the impact of the event, ranking it above any in the world of golf.
“Finally Last year people really didn’t know what to expect, now they know exactly what to expect when they come to LIV Golf Adelaide, the best golf tournament in the world,” Malinauskas said in a speech. “Greg had a vision for golf and it came to life in the form of LIV.
“It was Adelaide and South Australia that took the world by storm last year and we’re very, very excited to recreate them in 2024.” Malinauskas’ comments were confirmed last month, after the Adelaide event was named the world’s best golf event of 2023 at the World Golf Awards.
The highlight of the event turned out to be the “watering hole” on the par-3 12th, which lived up to its name thanks to its party atmosphere and horseshoe-shaped grandstand that extended from the tee to the green. The highlight of the week was Brooks Koepka’s younger brother Chase scoring an incredible hole-in-one in the third round.
The now-relegated LIV star holed the par-three 12th to spark a wild scenes, as drinks are thrown into the air and onto the playing surface, recreating the famous 16th hole of the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour.
Building on this success, Norman plans to expand and improve the Watering Hole in 2024. He told Australian Golf Digest: “I think the success of the Watering Hole can be extended because of its popularity”. “I think we can attract more audiences there..
“We’ve used LIV Adelaide as the benchmark for all 13 of our other events around the world. Because it creates the true culture of what LIV is all about: the energy, the lifestyle, the inclusion of the entertainment fan community. All of that was there and Adelaide was the one who brought it together. The thought process and collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office and his people, I think it might be quite feasible.
