“We don’t have much in common and see the world very differently.
“PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy has always been known for expressing his opinions very clearly. And that’s exactly what he did when talking on Sunday about PGA Tour star Patrick Cantlay and his caddy Joe LaCava.
The history between these three dates back to the 2023 Ryder Cup. McIlroy famously hit on LaCava after claiming LaCava was directly inside his putting line as he celebrated his Cantlay putt. This led to a violent confrontation in the parking lot shortly afterward.
This created bad blood between the two that has seemingly not gone away. McIlroy spoke about the incident and didn’t mince words on his feelings on both LaCava and Cantlay in an interview with Paul Kimmage of the Irish Independent.
“Here’s what angered me,” McIlroy said in the Irish Independent interview. “My relationship with Cantlay is average at best. We don’t have a ton in common and see the world quite differently.”
This is pretty telling of how McIlroy feels about Cantlay in particular. And he added that he thought Cantlay had a crush on LaCava, who was Tiger Woods’ caddy.
“Joe LaCava was a good guy when he was a cadet for the Tigers,” McIlroy added. “And now he’s having to deal with this bitch he’s become.. I’m still in a big void.
” Luckily for McIlroy, Team Europe got the win over Team USA, so it’s safe to say he had the last laugh against LaCava and Cantlay. That being said, it’s safe to say McIlroy won’t be willing to stay near Cantlay anytime soon.
