JON RAHM GIVES HIS REAL REASON FOR LEAVING RORY MCILROY AND TIGER WOODS TGL
Jon Rahm has reiterated his reasons for removing his name from the TGL roster in 2024.
Jon Rahm has confirmed the real reason for removing his name from Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s tech-infused TGL was down to “time commitment”.
Rahm, 29, is speaking to reporters in the media center ahead of his title defense at this week’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, where the Spaniard is hopeful to win its fourth season-ending title since 2017.
The world number 4 was initially confirmed as one of 24 names in the new TGL, which begins on January 9, 2024 in Florida.
But after further thought, especially while living with his family on the other side of the United States in Arizona, Rahm decided to remove his name from the list.
Rahm joins other PGA Tour greats Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland and Jordan Spieth to take a look at the new virtual tournament earlier in the week.
When asked by a reporter why he left TGL, Rahm said:
“I don’t know if I could be more clear than what I gave. That was just a commitment from that point, I didn’t keep it.” — I can’t really commit to that right now, can I. That’s a lot of flying hours, a lot of time away from home. And at the same time, I just redid a lot of my stuff, I also have to think about my sponsors. So it’s going to be more of a commitment than I initially expected.
“That’s basically it. It’s too much for what I think I should be doing.”
Rahm also confirmed that he has absolutely no interest in replacing McIlroy on the PGA Tour board following his shock resignation.
