LIV GOLF’S DUSTIN JOHNSON SINKS TO REMARKABLE CAREER LOW

Dustin Johnson has fallen outside of the top 150 players in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since 2008.

Dustin Johnson is no longer included in the world’s top 150 players for the first time since 2008.

As of November 27, 2023, Johnson is ranked 152nd in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Johnson, 39, was named the world’s best player in February 2017 and has remained at the top of the rankings for 64 consecutive weeks.

This was the fifth longest summit victory in golf history.

Unsurprisingly, Tiger Woods holds the record for the longest consecutive world No. 1 ranking, having topped the rankings 11 times in his career.

From June 12, 2005 until he October 30, 2010, Woods spent his 281 weeks at the top.

As for Johnson, it goes without saying that his drop in rankings is due to his transfer to the LIV His Golf League.

He was one of the first players to join his breakaway tour in June 2022 aftersigning a lucrative multi-year contract.

Johnson entered the 2021-2022 season ranked among the top five players in the OWGR after winning the 2020 Masters at Augusta National.

By the time he teed off at the inaugural LIV event at Centurion Club in June 2022, Johnson had fallen to No. 15 in the rankings.

And he was no longer in the top 50 players for the first time in 13 years.

The golfer who is married to Paulina Gretzky struggled in the majors in 2023.

He cruised through Augusta National, eventually reaching T-48, and finished the PGA Championship at T-55 before tying for 10th at the U.S. Open. Johnson failed to qualify for the 151st British Open.

As of the publication of this article, only two of LIV player still ranked in OWGR’s top 50 players, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith.

LIV was formally rejected in October 2023 with OWGR certification application.

The question of whether rival leagues should receive ranking points was controversial.

Johnson hasn’t complained about his world ranking since joining LIV, but insisted he played well enough to be on the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Steve Stricker’s side cruised to a 19-9 victory over Europe in the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Strait, where he scored a memorable 5-0-0 victory.

“It hasn’t been the best year ever,” he said earlier. “Was it good enough to make the team? I think so.

“If I had played [on the PGA Tour], yes, I would have made the team.” I would help the U.S. team Do you think you can? Absolutely.”
