Jon Rahm: Sky Sports Golf podcast discusses Masters champion’s potential switch to LIV Golf
Josh Antmann is joined by Simon Holmes and Zane Scotland to discuss a hectic week in golf; rumours of Jon Rahm to LIV and Chris Stroud speaking about the lack of support from the PGA Tour, while Tiger returns in Albany; plus a hefty discussion on the upcoming rollback of the golf ball.
Simon Holmes says Jon Rahm’s potential move to LIV Golf would be extremely detrimental as it would further discourage fans from seeing the best players compete against each other.
Rahm, the Masters champion, has yet to comment on the reports surrounding his £475 million ($600 million) move to the Saudi-backed league.
Holmes joined Zane Scotland, host of Josh Antmann on the Sky Sports Golf podcast, to talk about his first interaction with Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia then wanted to host the three events to promote Saudi tourism and become part of the sporting fabric rather than separate.
“LIV has arrived in a new league. The price of new talent is crazy,” Holmes said. “I’m worried that it will destroy the fabric of the game.
“If Jon Rahm left, I would be very upset.
If the division between one league and the other continued, as golf fans we rarely get to see the best players competing against each other.” “It would be even more annoying if I did. It really is” is more detrimental to the game than anything else.
Scotland asked if Rahm was disillusioned with what was happening behind closed doors between tours.
“Now he’s fed up with it and says, ‘You guys take care of yourselves, so I’ll take care of myself too.'” “Yeah.
Maybe, but I think there’s an element of Rahm getting tired of being used like a puppet.
“He has been quite open that he doesn’t feel heard. He doesn’t like that Rory maybe gets a bit more attention than he does. There’s that part to it. He seems like he has had enough.”
