Oscar Piastri has revealed that he spends more time with his Formula 1 physio than his girlfriend, such is the intensity of the racing calendar.
If 22 races in 2023 wasn’t enough, 2024 will take it to a whole new level.
Next year’s calendar has a whopping 24 races scheduled, starting on March 2nd in Bahrain and ending on December 8th in Abu Dhabi, a period that spans more than 9 months of the year.
Although there is a summer break in the middle of the season, teams, drivers and everyone involved in the sport are under tremendous pressure all year round.
And the rider’s concentration is so high that Piastri revealed that he spends more time with his physiotherapist than his girlfriend throughout the season.
Piastri: F1 cuts time with my girlfriend
“We keep [our relationship] private. It’s not secret like some relationships, but yeah, we… We try to keep it to ourselves and stay out of the spotlight.” She came to a few races this year and it was great,” he said on the DRS Podcast of eff winning.
“I’m not lonely, it’s okay,” he added.
“We all travel with a physical therapist or trainer.” I think we often joke that we see them more than our girlfriends, partners, etc., but it’s true.
“So, I’m traveling with – his name is Kim, we’ve been together for the past three years and we’ve had a lot of fun. “So, my friend Lily (say her name) (maybe) came to a few races, which was great.”
“My parents come to some races, but they still live in Australia so it’s not easy for them to come to every race, but we spend so much time with the team..”
“And also when we come to the races, don’t get me wrong they are a lot of fun, but it is my job and work so I have to be serious. I have taken my friends to some of the races, but I see them for like five minutes.
