TOUR PRO RIPS JON RAHM OVER LIV GOLF FORMAT CLAIM: “F— ME, HEARD IT ALL NOW!”
English tour pro Eddie Pepperell says he’s ‘heard it all now’ after Jon Rahm’s latest claim about the format of LIV Golf.
British tour pro Eddie Pepperell says he has ‘heard it all’ after Jon Rahm claimed one of the reasons he joined LIV Golf was to avoid ‘differences in wave weather’ .
Rahm, 29, joined his breakaway tour on December 8th after weeks of intense speculation.
The Spanish world No. 3 has signed a deal reportedly worth £450 million, making it LIV’s biggest signing to date.
Apart from the financial incentive, Rahm says the prospect of joining LIV is very attractive, despite previously “laughing off” rumors of joining a rival league and criticizing the format.
I listed several reasons why I felt this way. Rahm recently joined LIV’s new podcast “Fairway to Heaven” to discuss the high-profile transfer.
He explained: “Yes, perhaps this format has brought setbacks in the past, but at the same time there are many positive aspects as well.
“And a lot of players keep saying, One of the things that’s happened is there’s no difference in wave weather and if you’re unlucky you can be kicked out of the tournament.
“That’s part of the game, I understand that. That’s something we don’t have to deal with anymore.
Pepperell didn’t take Rahm’s remarks particularly well. He wrote: “‘The difference in the weather of the waves’… F— me. I heard it all.”
The Golfer, along with golf commentator Andrew Cotter and journalist Ian Carter, detailed Rahm’s decision to join LIV in the latest edition of the Chipping Forecast.
Pepperell said: “In my opinion, this deal has to be the biggest shock yet for the PGA Tour. It’s about thinking outside the box and creating something truly global.”
There are opportunities to create. “Apart from LIV, there are many talented players still playing on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. We hope they expand their horizons and encourage players from all over the world to participate. As we strive to create a truly global tour that reaches everyone, performing in every corner of the world, I still believe that something far more valuable will come of it. LIV will continue to create.
“This is as much a plea as anything else to the powers that be to now look at a full consolidation, bring it all [PGA Tour and DP World Tour] together and create something different. We need open minds and top US-based players [especially] to embrace this opportunity.”
