Patrick Mahomes claims NFL refs are impacting Travis Kelce legacy after furious outburst

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was almost in tears as he let his frustrations boil over for one of the first time’s in his NFL career after a late flag denied his team an incredible win

Patrick Mahomes totally flew off the handle after his group had a success detracted from them following a late banner on a Kadarius Toney score against the Bison Bills – then, at that point, proposed that the refs have impacted Travis Kelce’s heritage.

With Taylor Swift in attendance, the Kansas City Chiefs and Kelce made an incredible play to catch the ball and execute a perfect lateral. He threw a spiral pass to Toney who was able to find the endzone with just seconds to go.

However, a flag was thrown back at the line of scrimmage which was not noticed until after all Chiefs players had been celebrating, with the referee’s adjudging Toney to have lined up offside. Replays showed that Toney had indeed been offside – an extremely rare penalty called on a wide receiver given they have the ability to ask the line judges if they are onside.

Despite this, Mahomes was furious with the officials, being seen shouting at a referee after slamming down his helmet in a rare angry outburst on the sidelines. After venting his fury, he doubled down after the game as he criticized the officials and pointed to the detrimental impact on Kelce’s Hall of Fame career in having the play wiped off his highlight reel.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Mahomes said: “It’s tough to swallow. Not only from me, and football in general, to take away greatness like that, for a guy like Travis to make a play like that, you want to see the guys on the field decide the game.

“They’re human. They make mistakes. But every week, we’re talking about something… It’s the call. Just in that moment.

“Not for myself. To have a flag change the outcome of the game. I’ve never had offensive offsides called. If it does, they warn you. There wasn’t a warning the entire game.

“And then you make a call like that in the final minute? Another game, we’re talking about the refs. It’s not what we want for the NFL. It’s not what we want for football.”

He continued: “That’s a Hall of Fame tight end making a Hall of Fame play, and that won’t be shown on his resume because of an offensive offsides that does not affect the play. It takes away from not only this game, this season but from a Legendary career that Travis [Kelce] has had.”

As referenced, arbitrators in all actuality do caution the recipients that they are offsides, with Toney possibly not hearing the authority. Nonetheless, the player is typically the one to pose the inquiry of whether they are onside.

Cameras showed that the line judge tossed the banner when the ball was snapped, before Mahomes found Kelce downfield before the tight end tossed an ideal ball to Toney himself.

Patrick Mahomes could not hold back his emotions after the Chiefs loss

After this, the Bosses couldn’t propel the ball down the field and lost the game to the Bills, having the success taken from them.

The loss implies the Bosses are currently two successes behind the Baltimore Ravens in the lead position, with the Miami Dolphins possibly going on would it be a good idea for them they rout the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football.
