JUSTIN ROSE GIVEN TWO-SHOT PENALTY AFTER AMATEUR HOUR MISTAKE
England’s Justin Rose has revealed he made an amateurish mistake during the first round of The Sentry on the PGA Tour in Kapalua.
Justin Rose has experienced it firsthand.
Having gone professional in 1998, the 43-year-old Englishman is currently participating in his 25th season on the Tour.
Why we are making this point is because, even as a veteran, Rose is still prone to an amateurish mistake.
Rose revealed after round one of The Sentry he was penalised after playing the wrong ball on the seventh hole at Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
He was playing alongside American duo of Taylor Moore and Andrew Putnam.
It could have been worse for Rose, but he realised his mistake before holing out.
Under the rules of golf, if he completed the hole with the incorrect ball then he would have been disqualified.
“First day back at work after the festive period was interesting,” Rose wrote on X.
Perhaps he still needs a bit more time to adjust to his day job after taking some time off for Christmas.
Rose shot an opening round of 2-under 71 after receiving the two-stroke penalty, which put her seven strokes behind the early leader Sahith Theegala.
Rose has a history of making careless mistakes. He was also given a penalty during the 2013 BMW Championship for unintentionally moving his ball with a practice swing.
