LIV Golf star divorcing wife who wanted to see Rory McIlroy ‘punched in face’
Ashley Perez who once wanted to see Rory McIlroy get punched in the face, is filing for a divorce from husband Pat, who currently plays in LIV Golf for Dustin Johnson’s team
Pat Perez and his wife Ashley, who was a major fan of his while he was on the PGA Tour and currently plays for LIV Golf, have called it quits.
According to BroBible, a filing has been made for the couple’s divorce at the Maricopa County Superior Court, and both Pat and Ashley have removed pictures from their social media platforms. The initial filing was made in November, with Pat receiving further documents shortly after.
Perez, 47, has a net worth of $13 million and is currently listed as 795th in the Official World Golf Rankings – his highest-ever ranking was 16th. His wife became well known within golf for her loud support, and also her comments against Rory McIlroy after the most recent Ryder Cup.
Team Europe won the Ryder Cup title back off the American’s in 2023, and during the contest McIlroy was seen shouting at Patrick Cantlay’s caddie Joe LaCava in a car park. Team Europe teammate Shane Lowry stepped in to calm things down, but Ashley Perez turned to Instagram to reveal her true feelings towards McIlroy.
With Pat Perez from Arizona, his family were of course backing Team America to retain their Ryder Cup success. But when McIlroy turned on Cantley, Ashley Perez wrote on Instagram: “I can’t possibly be the only one that would absolutely love to watch Rory get punched in the face.
And I mean that in the nicest possible way… kinda.” But it wasn’t the only time that Ashley was a little too open on social media, as in 2022 she turned on golfing legend Tiger Woods as she brought up his previous driving offences after an accident.
After Woods crashed his car in February 2022, fans called for him to be given a golf cart when navigating the course as injuries sustained in the accident led to difficulty walking. Woods received a DUI back in 2017, and Ashley did not feel sorry for him.
“Literally why driving under the influence is ILLEGAL. I don’t feel bad for him,” Perez commented on Instagram as fans called for Woods to be given access to a golf cart. “Thank god he didn’t kill anyone. See ya,” she concluded.
Before he met Ashley at a Las Vegas dinner, Pat Perez’s first marriage ended in divorce. After getting married on New Year’s Eve of 2014, the couple has two kids together. Pat continues to mention his kids on social media, but he no longer makes public any mention of Ashley.
Although Ashley’s filing was successful, their divorce is not yet final, but it looks they will part ways legally in 2024. As he continues his stay in LIV, Pat has re-signed with Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces for the 2024 campaign after becoming a free agent.
