With the LIV Golf season beginning in a matter of weeks, a number of spots on the 2024 roster still remain free, but Ripper GC captain Cam Smith has filled one of his open places
Cam Smith has re-signed fellow Australian Matt Jones for the 2024 season, taking up one of the two open spots on his LIV Golf team.
On Thursday, Smith’s Ripper GC announced that Jones had rejoined the team. The Australian star had previously lost his roster spot after placing last in the circuit’s free agency section of the 2023 leaderboard. Jones is a founding member of LIV Golf, having participated in every tournament since the league’s founding in June 2022.
Jones re-joins his former Open champion skipper, Smith as well as fellow Australian Marc Leishman. One spot remains free on the Ripper roster though, following the relegation of Jediah Morgan last October
“I expect a lot more from myself to be able to help the team out more than I did last year,” Jones said following his return. “Even the last two years, I haven’t played to the level I know I can or expect myself to. I’ve been putting in some work here in the offseason, which has been great.”
Whilst Smith still requires one more player to complete his Ripper roster, even more question marks surround LIV’s latest signing, Jon Rahm. Rahm made LIV Golf history last month, becoming the Saudi league’s biggest signing to date after penning a reported £450 million deal.
As part of the agreement, Rahm was given the chance to captain and lead his own franchise. Three weeks remain until LIV’s 2024 season kicks off, but no formal announcement has been made regarding Rahm’s team name or the players who will comprise the four-man roster.
