Lewis Hamilton Revealed his thoughts on having children and quitting racing
Lewis Hamilton is still showing plenty of pace on the circuit, but at 39 years of age, the seven-time world champion is beginning to think about life after F1.
Lewis Hamilton has stated that he lacks the time to start a family while actively participating in F1 and he has not yet determined if he will in the future. Despite being 39 years old, the Mercedes champion has committed to competing for at least two more seasons in his pursuit of a historic eighth World Championship.
Hamilton’s relationship with his family has always been strong. His father, Anthony, played a pivotal role in keeping his motorsport dreams alive as a child, sometimes working as many as four jobs at one time in order to support and fund his son’s karting progression.
Hamilton is also known for expressing his gratitude towards both his mother and stepmother. Regarding their relationship, he has previously mentioned, “I am fortunate to have two maternal figures in my life.” “My birth mother is the person who instilled in me the values of empathy, kindness, and understanding towards others in society.
Additionally, I was fortunate to have a second mother figure in my life, my stepmother Linda. I deeply appreciate the presence and influence of both of these incredible women throughout my journey.”
However, at 39 there are still no signs of Hamilton starting a family of his own. Asked by Formule1.NL whether or not he has made his decision regarding having children, the seven-time world champion said: “Not right now, no, I don’t have time for that. I enjoy being an uncle. I also haven’t decided whether I want children yet.”
Hamilton was then asked whether or not his commitment to doing everything ‘100 per cent’ will play a role in that decision. He replied: “Yes, at the moment I don’t have time for it either.
“If I want a family, I would have to focus less on racing. And I don’t want that. There is a time and a place for everything. Fortunately, I don’t have to make that decision now either, maybe one day.”
While Hamilton has no immediate plans to begin a family, the Stevenage-born driver has enjoyed public romances in the past. Most notably, the 39-year-old dated pop star Nicole Scherzinger on and off between 2007 and 2015.
Nevertheless, Hamilton has been discreet about his romantic life since then, limiting public knowledge. Recently, there were speculations about his relationship with another pop singer, Shakira, as they were seen together on several occasions in 2023. However, these rumors turned out to be unfounded.
