Dustin Johnson has invited LIV Golf doubters to get themselves to a tournament and see for themselves what it’s all about.
Johnson came out on top in front of a big crowd on the third and final day of LIV Golf’s second tournament of the year in Las Vegas. Fans flocked to the ‘party hole’ eighth and soaked up the atmosphere on the 18th green as Johnson came out on top by one shot after a tight final round.
Johnson expressed his admiration for the enthusiasm displayed by fans during the Super Bowl weekend and extended an invitation for more fans to participate by attending the next event, LIV.
He acknowledged the positive experience of the week and the impressive number of fans present.
I had the impression that the atmosphere was lively. It was very enjoyable. Of course, it was a bit cold and quite windy, but the weather was genuinely pleasant.
I believe there was a good number of people attending and providing great support. Without a doubt, you could sense the enthusiasm in the air.
“If it you haven’t been to an event, then I would invite you to come out and watch because you’re going to like it. I think it’s just something that the fans really – all the ones that come, they all seem to like it. They all seem to have a good time. The more, the merrier.”
The Saudi-funded LIV Golf competition has divided golf fans and had huge ramifications for the PGA Tour, which recently agreed a big-money deal of its own with Strategic Sports Group (SSG) to get more funding. That news drew a blunt response from Johnson before LIV Golf Las Vegas, who told the Daily Mail: “To be honest, I have no idea. I mean, obviously I know the gist of it – it’s a group that’s investing some money into the tour… but that’s about as far as it goes. I haven’t read anything on it.”
Johnson’s victory at The Las Vegas Country Club signaled a positive beginning to the year for him. He attributes this success to his increased motivation and determination, brought about by his disappointment with his performances in 2023.
As a result, he is now filled with confidence and eager to maintain his current momentum as he prepares for The Masters at Augusta in April. He further mentioned that he is pleased with the current state of the game considering it is still early in the year, and he is looking forward to the upcoming months.
However, he acknowledges that there is still a significant amount of work to be done. He plans to take a break for a couple of days, specifically on Sunday and Monday, before resuming work again on Tuesday.
“I have a busy schedule ahead, including tournaments in Saudi, Hong Kong, my return, Doral, and the Masters. It’s important for me to maintain good performance for the foreseeable future, as there are several significant tournaments ahead.”
