JORDAN SPIETH HAS BEEN DISQUALIFIED FROM THE GENESIS INVITATIONAL

Jordan Spieth makes a shocking mistake as he is disqualified from Tiger Woods’ Genesis Invitational.

Following the second round at Riviera, Jordan Spieth has been disqualified from the Genesis Invitational due to signing an inaccurate scorecard.

Spieth, aged 30, experienced a disappointing second round on Friday, scoring 2-over 73. Consequently, he dropped down to 3-under for the tournament and narrowly remained in the top 30. However, the golfer who has won three major championships was immediately eliminated from the PGA Tour’s third prestigious event of the season due to submitting an inaccurate scorecard.

As per the PGA Tour, Spieth agreed to a three on hole 4 and scored a four on the par-3 4th during the second round.

That led to an automatic DQ.

It is the player’s responsbility to make sure all of the scores on a corresponding hole are correct on the scorecard.

If Spieth had signed for a higher score, for example a five, then he would have had to take that score and would not have been DQ’d.

But because he signed for a lower score, in this instance a three instead of a four, it led to disqualification.

Spieth was left frustrated heading into the clubhouse as he had just made a double-bogey six on the par-4 18th.

It is understood Spieth was feeling unwell during his second round, according to Sky Sports on-course commentator Rich Beem.

The mistake will prove a pricey one for Spieth, especially with there being a huge $20m prize purse on the line this week.

The winner of the Genesis Invitational will earn a cool $4m.

Earlier in the second round, tournament host Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw as a result of flu-like symptoms.

Woods, 48, was reportedly experiencing dizziness on the course and he decided to bow out of the event on the 7th hole.

Paramedics were called to attend to Woods following his WD.

Spieth was in the same group as Patrick Cantlay, who had taken the lead after 36 holes, but fortunately, Cantlay did submit an accurate scorecard with a score of 65. Cantlay, who aims to secure his maiden victory on the PGA Tour since August 2022, has risen to 13-under par following two rounds.

Jason Day, Luke List, and Mackenzie Hughes are trailing behind him with a considerable deficit of five shots.

Cantlay is in search of his ninth championship on the PGA Tour.

Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked player in the world, was disappointed with his performance on the golf course, specifically with his poor putting skills. He now faces the challenge of improving his game in order to close the considerable nine-shot gap and remain competitive in the tournament.

Despite shooting a better score of 66, Rory McIlroy finds himself 11 strokes behind.
