DP World Tour star Ryan Fox has made the tough decision to withdraw from his home New Zealand Open in order to concentrate on the PGA Tour.
Ryan Fox, a star on the DP World Tour, has announced that he will not be participating in the New Zealand Open this month in order to fully concentrate on his rookie season on the PGA Tour.
At the age of 37, Fox was able to secure his PGA Tour card for the first time this year by finishing within the top 10 on the DP World Tour Standings in the previous season.
The New Zealand Open is a consistent event on the PGA Tour of Australasia and it coincides with the Cognizant Classic (previously known as the Honda Classic) on the PGA Tour from February 29 to March 3.
Fox, the reigning BMW PGA champion and World No.41, made his latest announcement on social media on Monday 19 February.
Fox confirmed that he has made the difficult choice to not participate in the New Zealand Open this year.
Although I am disappointed to miss one of my favorite events, my main focus is on succeeding in the PGA Tour. Therefore, I will be remaining in the United States for the foreseeable future to increase my chances of achieving that goal.
“Hope everyone participating in the New Zealand Open has a wonderful week. I plan on returning in the future.”
For the second consecutive year, Fox has skipped his home event in order to participate in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
Fox has participated in two PGA Tour tournaments during this season, but he did not perform well.
He failed to make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open last month and finished only at T41 at the WM Phoenix Open earlier this month.
