A TikTok video from PGA Pro Georgia Ball has gone viral after it shows her receiving unsolicited advice from a male golfer at a driving range.
The video shows Ball clearly not asking for help, and yet he continues to “mansplain” swing technique.
Ball’s video has got everyone exchanging their own experiences of everyday sexism in golf and showing their indignation at the unsolicited advice.
Research from Golf Care highlighted that one in seven men think women should not play golf.
Polling more than 2,000 UK residents, Golf Care obtained their views on participation in golf as well as a range of other sports.
The results were appalling as 25% said female golfers should be paid less than men, one in 10 said the opinions of female sport pundits are less valid than those of their male counterparts.
A spokesperson for Golf Care said:
While there has been some improvement in promoting women’s involvement in golf, this illustrates the pervasive nature of sexism in both the sport of golf and society as a whole.
For a significant period of time, golf clubs and the professional golf industry have been viewed as predominately male, which must change quickly if golf is to remain relevant in the future of sports.
“Agreeing that women’s golf should receive the same amount of TV coverage as men’s golf, less than 66% of individuals surveyed.”
Approximately 25% of respondents expressed doubt regarding the presence of gender inequality and sexism in golf when questioned about the matter.
Just a few days after signing the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration of the International Working Group on Women and Sport, England Golf has come forward with this statement, showing their dedication to gender equality in sports.   Golf Care’s study and Ball’s TikTok video emphasize the need for further action to accomplish this goal.  Â
