Tiger Woods’ past comments speak volumes as LIV Golf make surprise announcement
Tiger Woods has previously issued his verdict on surprise LIV Golf signing Anthony Kim. He said he had never seen anyone play like him because the American held all his clubs in a special way.
LIV Golf announced a surprise signing in Anthony Kim on Monday, and Tiger Woods has previously had his say on the 38-year-old.
Back in 2008, Woods talked about how Anthony could control his clubs really well at a Nike golf event. They were both big stars for Nike then but later went their separate ways.
He’s the only player I’ve ever seen that actually plays pretty much the entire bag choked up. It does provide a lot of control; you don’t hit the ball as far offline. You hit the ball very straight that way,” Tiger explained.
Tiger also thought it was strange that not many other players tried to hold their clubs like Anthony. “It’s amazing that a lot of amateurs don’t try and do that,” he said. Woods noticed that some players hold their golf clubs too much like a baseball bat because they think it makes the club swing faster.
Anthony learned to hold his clubs this way from his dad, just like Tiger did. His dad’s clubs were too big and heavy, so Anthony had to hold them lower down to swing better.
After being away for 12 years because of injuries and even having surgery on his Achilles tendon, Anthony is returning to play golf professionally. He last played in 2012, when he tried to compete in 10 events but could only finish two.
The 38-year-old golfer has previously confessed that Woods is his golfing hero, like many other players. After becoming the first American to win two tournaments in a year under the age of 25, Kim expressed his admiration for Woods and his contribution to the sport.
“Kim mentioned that Tiger Woods had a significant influence on his life, as he started his career as Kim was contemplating becoming a golfer, and Kim comes from Los Angeles.”
“Golf lacked popularity until Tiger Woods came along, and I believe there are certain aspects of his game that I aspire to replicate.
He was one of the kindest individuals I’ve ever encountered, so I hold him in high regard,” he added.
“I admire him not only for his skills on the golf course but also for his character off of it, and I strive to follow in his footsteps.” Kim is set to make a comeback to golf by joining the 2024 LIV Golf season as a new member.
His first competition is anticipated to take place at LIV Jeddah, where the winner of the event will be awarded $4 million from a $25 million prize fund.
“LIV CEO Greg Norman expressed his opinion on Kim’s comeback to golf, extending a warm welcome while admiring his unique style of play.
Norman noted that it is a privilege for the company to support Kim in reclaiming his status as a standout figure in the sport.”
