MAJOR CHAMPION FORCED OUT OF THE MASTERS BUT HOPES TO RETURN IN 2025

Golf legend Bernhard Langer out of The Masters but will attempt to make 2025 his last as a competitor.

Golf icon Bernhard Langer has announced that he will not be participating in The Masters event in April. Langer informed host Garrett Johnson of ‘Beyond the Clubhouse’ about this decision.

Langer, aged 66, had plans to participate in the 2024 Masters as his last tournament at the renowned Augusta National from April 11 to 14.

The two-time Masters champion suffered a torn Achilles tendon while training at the end of January.

“Langer stated that he would have surgery right away.”    After a successful surgery in February, the German golfer informed golf reporter Johnston this weekend that his recovery period would prevent him from traveling to Georgia in April.

His recovery is 4-6 months from surgery on Feb 2.

Langer, who slipped on the famous green jacket in 1985 and 1993, will remain on the sidelines until the middle of the summer.

As a result of having won at Augusta National, he is eligible to compete in the year’s first major for as long as he likes.

Langer will now hope to make the 2025 Masters his final appearance at Augusta.

But he’s not certain yet.

Should he compete in the tournament next season it will mark his 41st appearance.

Johnston tweeted on 2 March:

“Spoke w/Bernhard Langer who confirmed that his recovery from surgery on his torn Achilles tendon forces him to skip next month’s Masters. What would have been his last. His recovery is 4-6 months from surgery on Feb 2. Will plan to make 2025 his final Masters as a competitor.”
When Johnston pressed Langer further on a potential 2025 Masters appearance, the German replied:

“I don’t know yet.”

If Langer recuperates in time, he will be able to participate in his last US Open at Pinehurst from 13-16 June this year.

“However, it will be uncertain due to his recovery timeline.”    Langer is eligible to compete in the 2024 US Open because he is the current champion of the US Senior Open.

In 2023, he secured his second US Senior Open championship by defeating Steve Stricker by two strokes at SentryWorld.
