Jon Rahm’s Masters menu revealed as LIV Golf rebel set for awkward reunion with PGA Tour stars
Jon Rahm will be the host of this year’s past champions dinner at the Masters – with the Spaniard set to reunite with his former PGA Tour stars at Augusta National
The menu for Jon Rahm’s champions dinner at the upcoming Masters has been announced, featuring dishes that reflect his Basque heritage, as the winner of the 2023 green jacket. Last April, Rahm won his second major title at Augusta National, beating out fellow LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka.
As a result, he has been granted the privilege of hosting this year’s champions dinner and has already decided on the menu he will be serving to his fellow winners.
The Spaniard’s menu is not surprisingly heavily influenced by his native country, offering a variety of tapas dishes including Iberico ham, Mama Rahm’s Classic Lentil Stew, Spicy Basque chorizo and potato, Spanish omelette, and creamy chicken fritters.
The ‘first course’ will then be served which is a Basque crab salad with potato, with a Basque ribeye steak with Tudelo lettuce and piquillo peppers or turbot and Navarra white asparagus served for main. The meal is then finished with a Miljojas de Crema y Nata – puff pastry cake, custard and Chantilly cream.
It will give Rahm the chance to mingle with his fellow champions, many of which he will not have seen for some time after making the move to LIV Golf. PGA Tour stars including Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott will be in attendance.
There will be a chance to reunite with the great Tiger Woods too, who is expected to make his second start of the season at Augusta. Rahm and Woods had previously held a strong relationship, but this appears to have wilted slightly on the back of his move to the breakaway league.
“Tiger? No, not really [had a response]. I texted him and the people that tried to reach out throughout the process when I signed and I just let him know, ‘Hey, this is a personal decision, I have nothing against anybody’.”
Rahm will not be the sole representative of the LIV setup in the room.
Several of the breakaway league’s top players have previously won the Masters, including Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, and Charl Schwartzel who are expected to be present at the meeting in Georgia. Additionally, iconic figures in the sport such as Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Nick Faldo, all former champions, will also be in attendance.
