LIV Golf has been throwing money around the sport signing the biggest names for extortionate paychecks, but not everyone earns the big bucks.
LIV Golf has shaken up the sport since its inception in 2022, splashing extortionate amounts of cash in order to sign the biggest names in golf – but not everyone on the Saudi Arabia-funded breakaway circuit got the same treatment as the likes of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
Shaun Norris became a part of the breakaway competition in 2022 and participated in seven tournaments, beginning with the LIV Invitational Portland – the second tournament of the contentious tour.
He stayed for the entire first year, but then left at the beginning of 2023 to go back to the DP World Tour. While the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund offered large sums of money to golfers like Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed, with Johnson earning £27 million and Reed pocketing £9.3 million in the first year alone, Norris only earned a relatively small amount of £782,000 for his performance on the tour.
For reference, new signing Tyrrell Hatton has already earned £1.5m in the space of just four events since signing earlier in the year.
After departing, Norris had a rather uneventful year in 2023, participating in only a few events and falling short of qualification three times.
However, Norris made a strong comeback in 2024 upon rejoining the DP World Tour. In his latest competition, Norris ended up in a joint second position at the Johnson Workwear Open.
It may not be long before Norris reunites with his former LIV Golf teammates on the course, as discussions are ongoing about a merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf that would also involve the DP World Tour.
