Louis Rees-Zammit’s NFL team choice explained after receiving widespread interest
Louis Rees-Zammit will officially join the NFL on Friday after signing a training contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Wales international has explained why he chose the Vince Lombardi Trophy holders.
Louis Rees-Zammit, a former rugby player, was inspired by his desire to win the Super Bowl when he chose to join the Kansas City Chiefs over other NFL teams that had offered him contracts.
The Welsh international gained attention at the age of 23 by announcing his intention to switch from rugby to the NFL in early 2024. He underwent a rigorous 10-week training program through the league’s International Player Pathway Programme.
He caught the attention of multiple NFL scouts, including those from teams like the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, with his impressive speed on the field.
Despite having the option to join various franchises, Rees-Zammit decided to choose the Kansas City Chiefs as his NFL team because he aims to win the Super Bowl with them.
His new representative, Kim Miale, shared with the Daily Mail : “The goal is to play on an NFL team and help to win a Super Bowl. Over a dozen teams had shown interest.”
Rees-Zammit is slated to officially join the Chiefs this coming Friday, under the guidance of the legendary coach Andy Reid who has guided the team to three out of their four Super Bowl triumphs. In 2024, the Chiefs will also be vying for their third consecutive Super Bowl win – a first in the NFL.
It’s understood that Rees-Zammit’s training deal with the Chiefs is valued at approximately $883,782. He’ll join a team backed by many as one of the favourites to get to the Super Bowl in New Orleans in early 2025.
“Everyone’s goal is obviously to win a Super Bowl,” Rees-Zammit previously told the Daily Mail. “But I need to find a team that’s right for myself and for the franchise. As long as the team has a good plan and we’re on the same page, that’s all that matters.”
Rees-Zammit has the potential to make a significant impact for Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for an NFL team.
In 2023, the Chiefs struggled initially but were able to recover and secure victories against tough opponents such as the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and San Francisco 49ers, ultimately successfully defending their championship.
Rees-Zammit wants his NFL career to be successful, so he has enlisted the support of Jay-Z’s sports agency to assist him during his time in America.
He announced his decision to sign with Roc Nation Sports and agent Kim Miale to manage his NFL pursuits and handle negotiations for his on-field contract.
He explained that selecting an agency that could assist in his new NFL career while also recognizing his background in rugby was an easy decision.
He stated that Roc Nation Sports International has a talented group of rugby players, and he is honored to be the pioneer in connecting Roc Nation Sports with Roc Nation Sports International. He trusts Roc Nation and Kim to guide him through this unique opportunity and is confident in his decision.
