The 2024 Masters is rapidly approaching and only a select few LIV Golf members will be competing for the green jacket at Augusta but Ian Poulter is not one of them
Less than two weeks remain until the Masters, and only 13 players from the LIV Golf circuit are scheduled to participate.
In 2024, there will be a decrease in the number of players vying for the green jacket compared to the previous year.
This is because LIV is unable to provide Official World Golf Ranking points.
Despite some well-known players not qualifying for the prestigious tournament, 13 LIV Golf stars have secured spots at Augusta.
If a player has previously won The Masters, they have a place at the major for the rest of their career. Winning any major offers a privilege as players are guaranteed a place at Augusta for five years should they claim victory at any of golf’s four biggest tournaments.
The list of LIV players set to play at The Masters includes Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Ian Poulter, a player from LIV, will not be participating in The Masters and will instead be watching from the sidelines.
He has been a member of LIV since it was established in 2022 and has strongly supported the organization. In 2021, the British player participated in The Masters for the 16th time and has achieved top 10 finishes three times.
Poulter received an invitation from an unnamed member to play golf at the tournament’s headquarters. Poulter has made it known that he will not be participating in The Masters tournament at the Augusta course, despite previous speculation. He clarified this decision on social media, stating that although he was invited to play by a member and the course was in excellent condition, he will not be participating. “In 2021, I participated in the tournament for the last time, which was also my final competitive Masters event.
Despite coming up short in 2019, I have no regrets. Throughout the 16 tournaments I played, I achieved 9 Top 25 finishes and only missed the cut once.
The Masters is a truly unique and special event.” Koepka, Adrian Meronk, Phil Mickelson, Joaquin Niemann, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Cameron Smith and Bubba Watson. Rounding out the list is defending Masters champion Jon Rahm, who claimed the second major of his career, four shots ahead of Koepka and Mickelson.
Perhaps the most fascinating LIV Golf player to be involved in the tournament is Niemann, who has been in incredible form on the circuit with two wins in the opening four tournaments. He has been given a special invite to compete by organisers and is considered one of the top contenders given his form.
One LIV player who will watch the action from the sidelines is Ian Poulter, who confirmed he will not play at The Masters. The 48-year-old joined LIV since its inception in 2022 and has been one of its biggest advocates.
The British competitor last participated in The Masters in 2021, marking his 16th time playing in the event, and achieving a top 10 finish three times.
Poulter received a special invitation from an undisclosed member to play golf at the tournament’s headquarters.
Poulter clarified on social media that he will not be participating in The Masters tournament at Augusta this year, despite being invited by a member and enjoying the course’s excellent condition.
“I last played the tournament in 2021. And that will be my last competitive Masters. I had a chance in 2019 and came up short. I have no regrets at all. I had 9 Top 25 finishes in the 16 I played. Only missed the cut once. It’s a truly special place.
