Peeved Brandel Chamblee has let rip at Phil Mickelson and told the LIV Golf heavyweight he’s the defector who has irritated him the most.
The beloved star of the Golf Channel has been a vocal dissenter of the Saudi-backed breakaway league and doubled down on his critiques with a full-on takedown of Mickelson’s standing in golf since leaving the PGA. Chamblee – in an illuminating sitdown with USA Today – didn’t miss as he tore ᵴtriƥs off Lefty and weighed in on the current landscape of the PGA, LIV and what comes next with both sides seeking a resolution. Rory McIlory might have mellowed but Chamblee isn’t backing down.
In an interview with Golf Week, Chamblee openly expressed his frustration towards the rebellious individual who had left him irritated. He mentioned, “Well, Phil. Most of the other players do not have the influence to significantly impact the outcome of the game.
Phil had the ability to positively influence the game. He could have potentially excelled as a commentator for the next few decades.
I firmly believe he would have been successful in that role.”
“By all accounts, he’s a pretty smart guy. By all accounts, he spent a lot of time thinking about some cool stuff in the game of golf, and I would have liked to have listened to him for 20 or 30 years. I’d liked to have heard what he had to say. The fans loved him. You know, within the small world of golf, there were a lot of people that didn’t particularly care for him, but I certainly enjoyed watching him play.
“I wasn’t a fan of his playing style. I remember him mentioning that he faced criticism for being too aggressive on the course.
I mean, besides Tiger Woods, who else has won more than me? Maybe others should consider adopting a similar approach to their game.
One issue I have with the current golf scene, apart from the LIV Golf world, is that everyone seems to be following the same coaching methods.
They focus on their dispersion rates, strategize on where to place shots, and it feels like everyone is playing by the numbers, so to speak.”
“Phil was not hesitant to take risks, to draw a comparison to gambling, although it may not be completely accurate to label him as such.
As a daring player on the golf course, he was entertaining to watch. He would take bold actions, like hitting out of difficult spots such as the right trees on hole 16.
However, he possessed great skill and a deep understanding of his abilities, making his performance enjoyable to witness.” “I am let down by him because he had the potential to positively impact the game.
During the early stages of his career, many were comparing him to Palmer, as both took risks and entertained the fans.
However, I believe he has abandoned the game and forgotten about those who paved the way for him.”
“I believe that the golfers who have joined LIV have harmed the sport. It seems as though they are only looking out for themselves.
They had received help from previous generations to reach their current status, but now they seem to be selfishly keeping all the opportunities to themselves.”
