The CEO of LIV Golf was seen at the Masters tournament, where Norman reported that several spectators approached him to express their admiration for the initiative he was leading.”
Greg Norman, the CEO of LIV Golf, was seen on Wednesday strolling the fairways at Augusta National. The Australian was observed exchanging greetings with Min Woo Lee as the players got ready for the first Major tournament of the year.
The sight of him was unexpected for many, and after being seen, the golfer who had won two Major tournaments gave a brief interview to the Washington Post, stating that the people present had reacted favorably towards him.”
“Walking around here today, there’s not one person who said to me, ‘Why did you do LIV?'” Norman said whilst out on the course. “There’s been hundreds of people, even security guys, stopping me, saying, ‘Hey, what you’re doing is fantastic.’ To me, that tells you that what we have and the platform fits within the ecosystem, and it’s good for the game of golf.”
Coming into the Masters, one of the big talking points has been the number of LIV golfers who are missing out on the first Major of the year. Talor Gooch, who claimed LIV’s individual title in 2023, told Australian Golf Digest that, if “Rory McIlroy wins The Masters his achievement could be diminished without the world’s best in the field.”
Along with Gooch, Dean Burmester held off a number of Major challengers to win LIV Golf Miami and, in the case of Norman, the LIV Golf CEO claims that: “There’s probably a couple that have been overlooked that should be in.”
He continued by saying that he cannot specify an exact number but there are certainly talented players who have shown outstanding performances in the past six to nine months.
Scottie Scheffler, starting on Thursday, is highly favored to win his second Masters title after achieving two wins and a second place finish in his last three events.
Jon Rahm, a member of the LIV roster, will be aiming to retain his Masters title, while Joaquin Niemann is in excellent form and seeking his first major victory.
