‘Meme of the year’: Tiger Woods moment steals the Masters limelight

Golf icon Tiger Woods has sent the internet into raptures after a moment from his final round at the Masters instantly went viral.

Tiger Woods had a difficult time at The Masters at the Augusta National golf course, but he managed to create a viral moment.

During the third round at Augusta, the 48-year-old’s chances of winning a sixth green jacket were dashed when he played the worst nine holes of his career out of the 99 rounds he has played at the tournament.

Even though Woods ended up in the last place out of the 60 players who qualified at 16-over, he managed to impress fans with a funny moment that was caught on camera during his last round.

The five-time Masters winner

Broadcaster Verne Lundquist was among the many who closely watched the celebrity Woods as he approached and shook hands with the microphone master.

However, it was the specific camera angle at that moment that made it legendary, giving the impression that the American was actually shaking hands with a tree.    The hilarious meme quickly went viral on the internet as fans from all over shared it.

A single post of the meme had received nearly 4 million views.

One user wrote: “That’s going to be the meme of the year.”

A second wrote: “Tiger Woods shaking the hand of his favourite tree at Augusta. Nothing but class.”

A third added: “Tiger Woods shaking hands with a tree is my new all time favourite Masters moment.”

A fourth added: “End of an era: Tiger Woods shakes hands with a tree.”

Lundquist is hanging up his mic after a mutual decision was made for 2024 to be his last Masters.

Incredibly, this is his fortieth time working at Augusta.
