Jon Rahm withdraws (!) from US Open

Jon Rahm has released a detailed statement confirming he has withdrawn from the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No.2 with a foot injury.

Jon Rahm, a former top-ranked player in the world, has pulled out of the 2024 US Open due to a foot injury.

Rahm verified the information through a statement posted on his social media accounts on June 11, just two days prior to the third major men’s golf tournament of the year.

The winner of the 2023 Masters tournament stated that after seeking advice from multiple medical professionals and his team, he has made the decision to withdraw from the US Open Championship this week in order to prioritize his long-term health.

“To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement!

“I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship!

Hopefully I’ll be back in action sooner than later!”

After discussing with multiple doctors and my team, I have made the decision that withdrawing from this week’s US Open Championship is the best choice for my long-term health. It would be an understatement to say that I am not feeling disappointed. I hope for success for all my fellow competitors and express my gratitude to the USGA for their support.

Rahm arrived at in North Carolina today (Tuesday).

In a news conference, the Spaniard did admit he was unsure if he was going to play this week.

He withdrew from last week’s LIV Golf event in Houston after playing only six holes of the second round.

It was later confirmed he had an infection in his left foot, caused by a lesion.

“It is doing better but the pain is high,” he said, before confirming he was unlikely to play a practice round until Wednesday.

“I have a little hole between my pinky toe and next one and it got infected.

“I got a shot to numb the pain [before playing in Houston] that was supposed to last all round and it lasted two holes.”

He continued by stating that the infection has been managed, but there is still swelling and discomfort present.

I walked outside wearing one shoe and a flip-flop because I wanted to protect the area from getting wet and promote healing as quickly as possible. “I can only do what is within my capabilities. The human body has limitations in terms of how quickly it can function.”

Ever since Rahm joined the breakaway in December last year, he has excelled in LIV events.

However, he will feel extremely let down by this obstacle, especially when taking into account his difficulties at Augusta National and failure to make the cut at the PGA Championship at Valhalla just last month.
