Rory McIlroy confirms divorce with wife Erica is off (!) ahead of US Open

The confident demeanour of Rory McIlroy before this week’s US Open at Pinehurst has been further explained after it emerged the divorce petition he filed in a Florida court last month has been voluntarily dismissed.

McIlroy has reconciled with Erica, his wife of seven years, in what is likely to serve as a huge boost to the golfer’s state of mind..

Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he and wife Erica Stoll are no longer pursuing a divorce, as they have resolved their differences before the US Open this week, as reported by The Guardian.

Last month, just before the US PGA at Valhalla, the 35-year-old McIlroy applied for divorce.”    “However, before the upcoming major tournament, McIlroy announced that he and his wife Erica are no longer getting a divorce and are happily reconciled after being married for seven years.”    Rory and Erica have a young daughter named Poppy.

Per The Guardian, ‘court papers served in Florida on Tuesday show the dismissal of the case at the behest of the parties involved’.

It follows an update at the weekend that Erica had ‘missed the deadline’.

Rumours had surfaced on social media that McIlroy had been romantically linked with CBS reporter Amanda Balionis ever since news emerged of his decision to file for divorce with Erica on Monday 13 May.

McIlroy not only shut those rumours down in a response to The Guardian on Tuesday night, but he also confirmed he was no longer going through with a divorce.

The Northern Irishman expressed how the couple have now ‘resolved our differences’ and that their ‘best future was as a family together’.

McIlroy told The Guardian:

There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game.

“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.

Earlier today, McIlroy spoke to journalists during his press conference before the US Open.    “He made a joke regarding Scottie Scheffler’s jail cell, then stated that he would not be establishing any specific goals for himself.”

The third-ranked player in the world will not be playing alongside the top-ranked player, Scheffler, and the second-ranked player, Xander Schauffele, for the first two rounds of the US Open.
