Rory McIlroy breaks silence on US Open heartbreak and takes immediate action.

Rory McIlroy has announced that he will be taking ‘a few weeks away’ from golf to refocus on where he wants to be regarding the game and how he will bounce back after a tough finish.

Rory McIlroy has stated that he will be taking a break from golf to regroup following his challenging performance at the US Open.

On his social media profiles, the 35-year-old declared his plan to reevaluate following a difficult defeat to Bryson DeChambeau. McIlroy started by stating that yesterday was a challenging day, possibly the most difficult he has experienced in his almost 17-year career as a professional golfer. He first commended Bryson for being a deserving champion and exactly what professional golf currently requires, a sentiment that he believes everyone can accept.

Looking back on my week, I will regret a couple of things that happened during the tournament, particularly missing two putts on the 16th and 18th holes on the last day. However, I will focus on the positives of the week, which are much greater than the negatives.

As I mentioned before the tournament began, I believe I am closer to winning my next major championship than I have ever been.

“The one word that I would describe my career as is resilient. I’ve shown my resilience over and over again in the last 17 years and I will again. I’m going to take a few weeks away from the game to process everything and build myself back up for my defense of the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open at Royal Troon.

“See you in Scotland.” McIlroy’s decision comes after he missed out on winning his first major tournament in 10 years.

On the 13th hole, McIlroy had a two-shot lead over DeChambeau, seemingly on par to end his decade-long drought that has been on the forefront of the golf world’s mind, heading into the final day at Pinehurst. However, it appeared as if the moment started getting to McIlroy as the Northern Irishman began playing uncharacteristically.

Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland is getting ready to putt on the 10th hole during the final round of the 2024 U.S. Open Championship at The Pinehurst Resort on June 16, 2024 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

McIlroy made an announcement that he would be taking a break from golf after his performance at the US Open. During the 16th hole, McIlroy missed a three-foot par putt, marking the first time he had missed one in nearly 500 attempts this season.

This mistake allowed DeChambeau to move closer to the lead, which eventually happened a few holes later.

McIlroy tried to finish strongly on the final hole while under pressure from DeChambeau. Despite recovering from sending his tee shot wide into the grass, McIlroy’s putt did not drop, leading to a bogey. DeChambeau, a top golfer with LIV Golf, made a successful putt for par to narrowly defeat McIlroy. This victory marked DeChambeau’s second major win, with his previous win being the U.S. Open in 2020.

After witnessing DeChambeau’s victory in the tournament he was close to winning, McIlroy promptly departed.

Following his triumph, the LIV Golf player stated his belief that McIlroy will make a strong comeback, despite the outcome of his US Open performance. “Rory is among the greatest players in the history of the game. Competing against someone of his caliber is a unique experience,” DeChambeau conveyed. “I would never want anyone to miss a putt like that. It just happened to unfold in that manner.” “He will secure numerous additional major titles in the future without a doubt.

I believe that his passion and determination will only become stronger.”
