Tiger Woods’ son Charlie claims huge win after bouncing back from US Open disappointment..

Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods, is set to participate in the upcoming US Junior Amateur Championships at Oakmont in the following month.

The champion of the tournament will secure a place in the 2025 US Open. Charlie, the son of Tiger Woods, secured victory in the US Junior Amateur qualifier in Florida by defeating 75 competitors.

On Wednesday, Charlie – who assisted Woods at last week’s US Open – shot a one-under 71 at Eagle Trace Golf Club to win the qualifier by a single shot. He will now take part in the US Junior Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club’s North and restored South courses next month.

Charlie is ready to participate in the tournament with 264 players, which includes top young golfers.

They will play two rounds of stroke play on both courses. The top 64 players will proceed to compete in match play on the South Course to determine the champion.

The winner will receive an exemption to participate in the 2025 US Open at Oakmont. Charlie performed well in the Florida qualifier, achieving three birdies in four holes on the back nine to secure victory. The 15-year-old began the game slowly with a bogey on holes 3 and 10, along with a double-bogey on 11.

Charlie acknowledged that he didn’t perform well in the beginning of the game, but improved significantly in the following 16 holes. He motivated himself to avoid making any more mistakes and capitalized on opportunities for birdies.

He stated that the USGA holds great importance to him and expressed his desire to win USGA championships, with the ultimate goal of winning the US Open in the future. Now, Charlie will attempt to make a mark in the long and illustrious history of the 108-year-old course, which will soon be hosting champions again. Jeff Judge, the Junior Amateur chairman and former president of Oakland Hills, expressed his anticipation of witnessing the upcoming generation of golf stars competing for the prestigious junior golf championship at Oakland Hills in July.

When Woods was 14 years old, he qualified for his first US Junior tournament and made it to the semifinals. The golf champion, who has won 15 major titles, achieved his first victory at the US Junior Amateur the following year at Bay Hill. He holds the record for being the only player to win the tournament three years in a row.

Two decades later, Charlie Woods, son of former US Ryder Cup team member Tiger Woods, will play on the famous Oakland Hills course. During his only Ryder Cup partnership with rival Phil Mickelson, the 15-time major champion lost matches against Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington, as well as against Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood. In April, Charlie was unsuccessful in his initial try to qualify for a US Open. He scored a 9-over 81 at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, coming in 61st out of 74 participants. Only the top-five finishers and two alternates were able to move on from local qualifying.

The teenager has participated in tournaments before. Last year, Charlie won a state high school championship with his team in Florida. Despite this experience, he did not qualify for the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic after shooting a 16-over 86. In December, Charlie partnered with Woods in the 2023 PNC Championship and they finished tied for fifth place.

Woods showed pride throughout the event as Charlie excelled and didn’t miss a single fairway on the last day.
