LIV Golf League: Tyrrell Hatton holds off Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau to earn big win in Nashville

Tyrrell Hatton won the inaugural LIV Golf Nashville event Sunday, easily holding off Jon Rahm and two-time U.S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau for the Englishman’s first victory since January 2021 at Abu Dhabi.

Hatton entered the round with a three-shot advantage and carded an impressive 6-under 65 to secure a dominant six-stroke victory at The Grove.

Despite facing two bogeys, Hatton managed to sink eight birdies and ended the tournament at 19-under 194. He made a conscious effort to refrain from checking the leaderboard until reaching the 17th hole.

Hatton expressed his satisfaction in being able to play the final few holes without too much pressure. He finished tied for 26th at the U.S. Open with a score of 77.

Having not won a tournament in over three years, there was some doubt in his mind about his ability to win again. Nonetheless, he was pleased that he was able to demonstrate his capabilities to himself.

This marked Hatton’s ninth tournament after becoming a member of LIV Golf, with his highest finish being a shared fourth place.

His only win on the PGA Tour came at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Hatton’s contribution, along with captain Rahm’s score of 68, led Legion XIII to its third team victory.

Rahm participated in his first tournament since being sidelined from the U.S. Open due to a foot infection, which caused him to withdraw from LIV Golf Houston in the second round.

Hatton was unbeatable on a hot Tennessee afternoon, with no one able to catch up to him.

English compatriot Sam Horsfield also made a strong finish, scoring five birdies in the last nine holes for a 65, ending at 13 under. DeChambeau (68) and Rahm were equal to Joaquin Niemann (62) and Lee Westwood (66) at a score of 12 under par.

“Rahm made birdies on three out of his first four holes to narrow the gap to two strokes behind Hatton.

However, on the par-4 sixth hole, he hit his tee shot into the water after a drone used for television coverage disrupted his backswing.

As a result, he managed to salvage a double bogey.”

DeChambeau’s shot hit the pin on the par-3 15th hole and his birdie putt rolled past the hole. After observing this, he laid down on the green and rolled onto his back.

Play was halted unexpectedly due to a heavy rain shower when only five holes remained, resulting in a 22-minute delay before the sun reappeared to allow the completion of the final five holes.
