LIV Golf League dealt hammer blow (!) as its streaming platform shuts down

LIV Golf’s free streaming provider, Caffeine TV, has ended its service with immediate effect.

LIV Golf’s free streaming service has suffered a major setback as one of its providers, Caffeine TV, has announced its immediate closure.

Caffeine TV, known as ‘the hub for live sports and community’, was utilized by LIV Golf as a free streaming platform for the first round.

The company was established in 2018, and it partnered with LIV Golf at the beginning of 2024. At the time of partnering with Caffeine TV, LIV Golf stated that the streaming service attracted a more diverse and younger audience compared to traditional broadcast platforms.

In February 2024, the independent league supported by Saudi Arabia mentioned that “Caffeine TV has provided significant visibility for the league, its events, and original content featured on the platform from the beginning of the 2024 season.” However, the agreement did not even last for half a year.

Other live sports covered by Caffeine included basketball, combat and football.

Caffeine TV’s reason for shutting down with immediate effect on Wednesday 26 June was down to a lack of profitability.

That is despite growing to 61m monthly users and 4m per day.

Caffeine posted an official statement about shutting down on their website.

The last paragraph from Caffeine suggests a comeback could be on the cards at a later date.

But for now, they are done.

It’s not all doom and gloom for LIV Golf’s Friday coverage as they will continue to provide action on The CW App and LIV Golf Plus.

No subscription is needed for The CW App.

The LIV Golf events will continue to be shown on The CW, The CW App, and LIV Golf Plus in the USA on weekends. Two weeks prior to the upcoming LIV Golf event in Andalucia, Spain, Caffeine has announced the discontinuation of their free streaming service.

LIV Golf events are also shown worldwide on LIV Golf Plus, the LIV Golf YouTube channel, and through over 20 international broadcast partners.
