Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup captaincy decision leaves fans baffled after awkward snub

Despite being overlooked as a player by Team USA at the last Ryder Cup, a total U-turn has taken place after Keegan Bradley was named their captain for 2025.

Keegan Bradley has been selected as the Team USA captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, even though he did not participate as a player last year. Bradley feels privileged to have been chosen for the role and aims to silence his doubters following his exclusion in 2023.

Before the last Ryder Cup, the 38-year-old experienced an uncomfortable rejection when he was not selected for the team, which was caught on camera.

Bradley is ready to write a new chapter in 2025, as he said: “I am incredibly honoured to accept this opportunity to Captain the United States Team at the 2025 Ryder Cup. I would like to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for their trust in me as we embark on this journey to Bethpage Black.

“My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport, and this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations for 2025.”

Bradley’s prior rejection was filmed by Netflix and featured in season two of Full Swing, as former captain Zach Johnson was dealt the difficult task of breaking the news. Bradley admitted that he was tipped off about camera crews arriving at his house which made him assume he would be picked for the Ryder Cup, but that wasn’t the case.

The situation was explained on the ForePlay podcast, as Bradley revealed: “I got a text from Zach, ‘Hey, guys, I’m going to be calling everybody tomorrow morning.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, —-, I got another night now of sweating this out.’

Upon waking up feeling extremely exhausted, Keegan receives a phone call from Netflix informing him that a camera crew is on their way to his house.

He questions the purpose of sending a camera crew if he is not going to be chosen for something. Bradley acknowledged that the situation was very difficult and fans were upset because the Netflix crews made a private moment very public. He mentioned that he started to believe he was guilty for the first time, wondering why a camera crew was being sent to his house. When he received the phone call and saw his partner’s reaction, he realized the severity of the situation and felt devastated.

John Lindert, the President of the PGA of America, made an official announcement on Monday, confirming Bradley’s comeback after 11 years. Lindert stated, “I am pleased and enthusiastic to appoint Keegan Bradley as the Captain of the 2025 United States Ryder Cup Team.”

“Keegan’s previous participation in the Ryder Cup, his strong connections, and his enduring enthusiasm for the event will be extremely beneficial as he leads the U.S. Team in the next eighteen months.

We believe that with Keegan in charge, the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team will approach Bethpage with the same assurance and resolve that has characterized his career.”
