LIV Golf stars warned by USA captain Keegan Bradley despite Ryder Cup lifeline.
Keegan Bradley is in no doubt that the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are good enough to represent the USA at the Ryder Cup, but says he will not simply give spots to LIV Golf players.
Keegan Bradley suggested that LIV Golf players like Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka may have a chance to be selected for his Ryder Cup team, but he emphasized that it is not certain.
Because LIV is not approved by the Official World Golf Ranking, players from LIV do not have a direct method to qualify as one of the six automatic selections for the Ryder Cup. This leaves the majors as their sole opportunity to earn points.
However, there’s no denying that reigning U. S.Open champion DeChambeau and five-time major winner Koepka are among America’s top 12 players as Bradley starts planning for next year’s clash with Europe at Bethpage Black. Last year, thanks to his impressive performances at the majors, including his victory at the PGA Championship, Koepka was given a captain’s pick by Zach Johnson for the Ryder Cup in Rome.
But despite their undeniable talent and previous successes in the Ryder Cup, DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed were left out, forced to watch from home. The Americans were defeated 16.5-11.5 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, with Europe seeming to be a more united team.
Bradley remains firm in his belief that politics will not play a role in his team selection process for the upcoming year.
He emphasized that all players must prove themselves through their performance in the next 12 months to earn a spot on the team. During his appearance on the Fore Play Podcast, he conveyed his eagerness to field the most competitive squad.”
“I firmly believe in having the best players on the team. Who knows what we will be facing in terms of LIV and the PGA Tour next year,” he stated confidently.
“I have not been involved in any private discussions, and I am unaware of the proposed merger between LIV and the PGA Tour. I have decided to stop trying to understand this situation.” I believe that the team deserves to have the most skilled players.
This could include players from Liverpool, but it may not necessarily be limited to them.
I am aware that there are individuals on Liverpool who are driven to win the Ryder Cup. I am not sure how the selection process will unfold, but my priority is to have the top 12 players on the team.
Bradley, a 38-year-old golfer, discussed his disappointment at not making the cut for the Ryder Cup last year, despite his performance being better than that of top players like Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. Nevertheless, the New England native is staying firm in his decision not to change the selection process for the team.
He claimed that currently it is done with six and six. If one finishes seventh on the list, they should make the team.
However, he then realized that if he is the one making the team, he can decide to include numbers seven and eight if he feels they should be included. Therefore, there is no need to change the current system.
