Adrian Newey breaks silence after announcing eye-watering Aston Martin F1…

Adrian Newey’s first words after big-money Aston Martin F1 deal announced.

Adrian Newey’s move could see a huge shake-up in the sport, with chairman Lawrence Stroll calling it “the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport” given Newey’s huge success at Red Bull.

Legendary Formula One designer Adrian Newey said he was won over by Aston Martin’s vision under Lawrence Stroll after agreeing to join the team in 2025.

Newey is considered one of the best designers in the history of the sport and is the brains behind every championship-winning car built at Red Bull, with the 65-year-old opting to leave his role as Chief Technical Officer after nearly two decades with the team.

The move could see a huge shake-up in the sport, with chairman Stroll calling it “the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport” given Newey’s huge success at Red Bull that has led to seven drivers championship titles.

Newey had been linked with a move to Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton too after announcing his exit from Red Bull, but said the “passion” from Stroll to build a “world-beating team” was the defining factor in making his decision as he signed a lucrative deal worth around £20million per year, with add-ons potentially pushing that figure up to £30m.

He said: “I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with. Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team.

“He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport. His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in.

“With strong partners such as Honda and Aramco, Aston Martin now has all the necessary infrastructure in place to become a world championship-winning team. I am excited to be a part of this journey and contribute towards achieving this goal.”

Stroll stated that Aston Martin had the top designer globally on their team and believed this would assist them in pursuing championships. “He expressed excitement over the significant development,” the individual noted.

Adrian is considered the top performer globally in his field – his skills are unmatched. I am filled with pride knowing that he is now a part of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. This marks a pivotal moment since Aston Martin made its comeback in the sport, showcasing our determination to establish a competitive Formula One team aiming for world championship titles.” When Adrian became free, we realized we needed to act quickly. Our first discussions showed that both parties wanted to work together in a unique opportunity.

We are serious about this partnership, and so is he. Adrian has the same drive and determination as us, he is invested in the project, and he will play a key role in shaping Aston Martin Aramco’s Formula One journey. “At Aston Martin, there are several changes happening.

Andy Cowell, previously the head of High Performance Powertrains at Mercedes, will be joining as the group’s CEO in October. Enrico Cardile from Ferrari is also expected to take on the role of chief technical officer.”
