European Ryder Cup captain drops revelation about LIV Golf’s Sergio Garcia
European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has revealed Sergio Garcia may be involved in next September’s contest at Bethpage Black.
Donald made the revelation in a news conference in New York on Tuesday alongside his American counterpart Keegan Bradley.
For his part, Bradley stressed that he’s not thinking about combining the captaincy with a playing role just yet.
Donald, however, revealed Garcia may have one last hurrah wearing the white, blue and yellow colours of Ryder Cup Europe.
First of all, obviously he resigned his membership a couple of years ago but we’ve had a few chats,” Donald said of Garcia.
“He’s considering re-joining [the DP World Tour]. He’d have to follow all the rules and regulations like everyone else and if he does that then, again, he will be eligible to partake in the Ryder Cup.”

The Spaniard is Europe ‘s record points scorer with 28.5 and has played in all but two cups since making his first appearance in 1999.
Garcia was barred from playing on the European-based circuit last year when a panel of retired high court judges decided that the DP World Tour had the right to start fining golfers for taking part in LIV events.
Former Masters champion was joined by Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter among the players who resigned home circuit.
Even after parting way with the DP World Tour, Garcia tried one last attempt to be included in September’s Ryder Cup golf event in Rome.
According to Telegraph Sport, Garcia wanted to clear £700,000 fines he had incurred and had agreed to participate in any DP World Tour in 2024, excluding those overlapping with LIV’s calendar, to have a shot at being called up.
What was known at the time was that Donald had no knowledge of Garcia’s bid to stage a comeback to the Ryder Cup team.
In March Mr.Garcia mentioned about this fact that he wants to play a Ryder Cup again.
He said he would be ‘sad’ if he is never to be involved as a player again.
“Well let’s hope things stabilize and, you know, look at how everything plays out at the end,” he said.
And hopefully, they just give us the possibility — all of us — to be a part of it again if we are playing well enough.
As for what we said we would do, we’ll see where that puts us in the near future.
Garcia ended up in the third place out of the competition of the 2024 LIV Golf season.
He claimed his maiden LIV victory in Andalucia in July, defeating India’s Anirban Lahiri in a sudden-death playoff.
It represented his first win in four years.
