Hamilton: I am still able to react more quickly than the younger guys.

In 2025, Lewis Hamilton will start a new chapter in his Formula 1 career with Ferrari, achieving the rare feat of racing at 40 years old.

Instead of viewing age as a barrier, Hamilton sees himself as being in peak condition, both physically and mentally.

Looking back on his progression from a talented 22-year-old newcomer to an experienced veteran in the sport, Hamilton believes that his skills have only improved with time.

In a recent interview with The Times, he expressed feeling healthier than ever at the moment. I am in a great state, both physically and mentally.

“I can still react faster than the younger men.” I believe I have improved as a driver compared to when I was 22 years old.

Reflecting on the beginning of his career, Hamilton acknowledges his significant growth.

“I was only youthful, full of energy and ruthless, without finesse, without balance,” he remarked. I lacked the knowledge of how to work well in a team or how to demonstrate leadership skills.

To excel as a racing driver, it’s important to have more than just speed, but also be well-rounded in various aspects.

Hamilton started competing in races when he was six years old. Yet, facing off against his competitors in the vibrant yet frequently disordered world of karting was not the sole challenge he encountered.

The British individual acknowledges that he faced depression in his youth while navigating the demands of his racing career and also coping with bullying in his school environment. And that internal struggle continued into his later years.

I believe it was the stress of competing in races and trying to keep up with schoolwork. The act of bullying. Hamilton recalled that he had nobody to speak with.

I have faced mental health challenges since early on in my life, dealing with depression at the age of 13 and experiencing tough periods in my twenties.

Nevertheless, as he matured, the seven-time F1 world champion began to gain control over his inner struggles.

He mentioned that you are gaining knowledge about patterns inherited from your parents and exploring ways to change your reactions to them.

What used to upset me before no longer upsets me now. “I am much more polished now.”
